Cannot open MXL with Finale OR Sibelius

Post by Nothingworkshere »

Whenever I try to open a CPDL .xml file in Finale, I get a few measures that seem to be correct and then pages of blank measures. When I try to open a CPDL .xml file in Sibelius nothing at all happens.

What is the secret?

1. Are you speaking of XML format (there are few on CPDL) or MXL (compressed MusicXML - there are more than 16,000 files on CPDL)?
2. Do you 'open' them through a double click or a 'drag and drop' movement? They are not native Finale or Sibelius file, so you have to File/Import them.
3. Only recent versions of Finale, Sibelius, Capella and MuseScore can import them. Which version do you use? Have you tried (free) MuseScore?
4. MusicXML is an interchange format that keeps the musical matter: staves, strands, measures, pitch, etc. It doesn't well preserve marginal texts like annotations, remarks, ossias, etc.
