Re: Recent Modern music postings at ChoralWiki

Herr Dalitz, To take your last point first, no: it's not just a rant about a piece I heard and didn't like. I genuinely don't understand the modern use of dissonance. I'm alive now, and composing, and I use dissonance commonly, but not ubiquitously. Thank you for your thoughtful exposition. I'm not ...

Re: Recent Modern music postings at ChoralWiki

I have a question for modern composers. Even though I'm alive and composing, I have never felt comfortable in the dissonance heavy compositions of many modern composers. So, my question is: what draws you to compose in such a manner? What am I (who am not afraid to experiment) clearly missing in und...

Re: O lux beata Trinitas - Mendelssohn - typo ?.

If the text variants are "intentional", whether you like the composer otherwise, I would avoid the piece. This isn't the same as replacing Quemadmodum with Sicut, which Palestrina did, because both text variants exist already, and both make sense. "duplex gloria" would need some ...

Re: Claim justified about the text of Beata Progenies

Thank you.

Does the fact that I can't find the text in my Breviary mean that it used to be used, but isn't any longer, or that I'm as blind as a bat, or something else?

Claim justified about the text of Beata Progenies

At Leonel Power's motet Beata Progenies, the editor notes that it is a Matins Responsory for Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Can someone substantiate that? I have been searching in vain for the "Matins Responsory" text, because I can't find it in my Office.

Re: How long between submission and approval (or rejection)?

Claude,

Thank you. Can you help me understand why my score (submitted in August) is unposted?

How long between submission and approval (or rejection)?

I'm sure I've seen the thread, but I can't locate it, so I'm re-asking the question: How long is the process from submission of a work for CPDL and approval/posting or rejection/notification?

Re: REPERTOIRE FOR NEW INTERGENERATIONAL CHOIR

I'm a year late, but I have some thoughts, if you're still reading them. If you're not reading them, maybe someone else will. 1) Temporarily disregard the multigenerational and multiethnic nature of the choir. Establish criteria which the music you choose will have, first. That way, the music can fo...

Re: Looking for "liturgy music" but not sure what it is properly called

It sounds as if what you're looking for is a way of singing things such as collects and lessons. Tones exist for those, and these can be found in a book called the Liber Usualis . Additionally, there are ways of chanting psalms, using something imaginatively called "psalm tones". Those are...

Contacting editors of music

This is my first post on the Forum. Can anyone provide a way to contact Anthony Smitha, who edited Lionel Power's Beata Progenies? I wish to inquire about an editorial choice he made, to wit, there are many more f#s in his edition than in at least one other edition available here. I'm persuaded that...
