Re: Composer: Anonymous (Medieval Organum, c. 1000-1100)

This is a little beside the point, but while Anonymous IV is an actual writer, anonymous works are not by some author known as Nameless (fl. c. 1400 BCE - ) and "anonymous" usually follows sentence capitalization. If (Anonymous) is to be handled as a composer page, it would be less unmanag...

Re: Composer: Anonymous (Medieval Organum, c. 1000-1100)

Compositions by Anonymous (why is that capitalized as if it were a name???) needs certainly rethinking, lest we get to a point where someone planning to upload [[Magnificat LXII (Anonymous)]] isn't willing to check whether it's perhaps already hosted under another page name (and how many of us would...

Re: Una pagina di troppo/ how to erase a page

You can also place {{Template:Delete}} on the page, which will add it to Category:Delete requests, where an administrator will spot it.

Re: Inconsistent results from Multi-category Search

I don't very well understand Special pages, which have no history or discussion pages. It might be nice to at least have a Help:Multi-Category Search (or per Chuck's capitalization guideline Help:Multi-category search). "The more categories you select, the narrower the search will be" is a...

Re: Inconsistent results from Multi-category Search

Interesting: I just searched for ATTB + a cappella and got 748 pieces, almost all of them Renaissance! ATTB + Renaissance gets 621 hits, narrowed to 10 with Christmas (adding Advent/Epiphany narrows even more). For ATTB + A cappella + secular I get 260.

Re: MXLs erroneously uploaded under my editions

Thanks, I see what you're getting at, but still have reservations: MXL files created by scanning a pdf are going to vary based on the scanner, and are also quite different from one created from a Sib file. Another doubtful example is https://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/St_Mark_Passion_(Orlando_di_La...

Re: MXLs erroneously uploaded under my editions

Max, when you say "if you wish to upload your own MXL files" it's unclear to me if you're addressing MXL extractors or the original editor. The issue seems to me one of how editors are represented. User:David Fraser dealt with transposition requests by 'anonymising' Sibelius files so that ...

Re: How to present the Genre information

(Pace Chuck, but the Book of Common Prayer is consistent about capitalizing Canticle. The big source of confusion is whether the category should be used only for paired Mag/Nunc or for all Evening Canticles.) One set of permutations would seem to be Sacred, Secular, either, neither, both. "Text...

Re: MXLs erroneously uploaded under my editions

What I seem to be observing is that I can make a far better MXL from Sibelius source code than Claude can from a scan of my PDF, and it's worrisome that I appear to be the responsible party. Perhaps a modified CPDL copyright would be a better way for me to go? I do ordinarily enjoy hearing directly ...

Re: MXL version of updated edition

Does it make a difference how one navigates to the special upload file page? One way of course is to use Tools/Upload file. But if I look at https://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Fil ... isroel.mxl there's a "Upload a new version of this file" button that should preserve a file history.

Re: MXLs erroneously uploaded under my editions

Hi Claude, This can be confusing in many ways: I almost contacted a listed editor about a garbled MXL before checking the page history and noticing that the file was added by you. I haven't yet had the courage to check on the many files you added where it appears as if I am the 'editor'. Why not jus...

Re: How to present the Genre information

Ah, I understand 5: La Traviata should have the subgenre Operas, but Brindisi (or rather Drinking songs) would only be added to the Edition notes of an excerpt. In the absence of such an edition, would there be a way to search?

Re: How to present the Genre information

No. 1 I look at from the user's point of view: "Eucharistic song" is marginally valid as a 'genre', but very handy if one is searching repertory for weekly Exposition & Benediction services. There's also delight in finding that clicking on Svetilen can lead one to other examples, even ...
