Si bona suscepimus - de Rore
Si bona suscepimus CPDL #28960 is described on the page, and in most links, as by Cipriano de Rore. The PDF credits it to Costanzo Porta, which I suspect (but do not know) to be correct. Does anyone know which is the correct attribution?~~~~

Re: Imperfect pitch
I don't believe that "Original key" solves the modal problem, but rather elides it. Consider the example of the Hypodorian mode which is often transposed down a fourth to appear in renaissance publications with a key of one flat (D minor) qualified with accidentals, specified or implied (m...

Imperfect pitch
"Pitch" is an ambiguous term, with different meanings in different contexts [c.f. the siege of Calais, 1558: "Some people are in the pitch. They think it's all over. It is now" "Original pitch" is used by contributing editors (and I admit myself guilty as any) as a shor...

Re: europe festival info,
For now, information is simple and succinct That is, of course a matter of perception. Despite reading not one but two somewhat prolix "puffs" on this subject I am none the wiser as to whether this site is dedicated to the promotion of music worthy of attention, or whether it is to promot...

Good knowledge!
Many thanks for the erudite heads up, and apologies for the tardy acknowledgement.

Re: What does "Capella" mean?
Wotcher Max, Sorry to take so long to thank you for your input: I was hoping to deal with all replies at once and didn't realise that the silence would be deafening. I too think that an indication of geographical dispersal is the best bet, but still remains to be proven. I think I'm going to have to...

Re: Music theory app for Android
One learns some more theory every day. I was under the misapprehension that there were 17 major keys.Stuart Bahn wrote:‘to learn what all the major, minor and diminished chords are in all 12 major keys.

What does "Capella" mean?
I am embarking on some Venetian style motets, published in Nuremberg, 1615. The parts for Choir 3 (3rd choir of 4; 4 parts of 18) are individually and peculiarly entitled "Capella" (e,g.: XIV. VOX 3. chorus. Capella). I have not previously encountered this direction in partbooks works, alt...

Re: Adding voicings to lists of works inside Text pages
I agree. It is perhaps necessary to state the number of voices on these pages for disambiguation purposes (e.g. a 7, a19) (in those infrequent instances where an individual composer has made multiple settings) but to clutter the page with editorial pernickettyness of voicing or pitch at this stage o...

Re: Section for "new pope" music on main page?
The window of opportunirity to shift shedloads of an arrangement of "Smoke gets in your eyes" has already passed.
And Richard Thompson's "Woman or a man" is still in copyright, so there's no commercial benefit in insisting on the Pope Joan ceremony.

Re: lyrics hyphenation
The standard rule for lyrics hyphenation is either fully to understand the transliteration of the language in question, or to employ an underlay operative who does. You mention phonetics, but do not seem aware that all the words with which you are having difficulties are monophthongs, or at best dip...

Re: Help in creating new composer pages
You will first need to identify the correct and standard forms of the composers' names. The RISM directory http://www.hmt-leipzig.de/pdf/RISM_IndexB1.pdf will help elimniate the genitive forms and location details still included in your list. It will also establish a floreat period (in this case 150...

Re: Extracting the Michael
I've moved the work page to reflect Hieronymus Praetorius as the composer. Thank you, kind sir. My edition will be winging its way onto the site in the next couple of days. I now see that the M.Praetorius setting has been requested: I am considering withdrawing the download charge on my edition the...
