Re: Learning to play SATB simultaneously
If you can't find a teacher the most helpful thing for the choir would be to start with learning to play bass and chords. Here's an online primer: http://www.musikanalyse.net/tutorials/regola

Re: Byrd's Christ rising
My sympathies! I can see where "version with organ" might be taken at first glance as "arranged for organ accompaniment"; diligent comparison before the first rehearsal can sometimes pay huge dividends. To ask Ross to expand the description he added: "This verse anthem for E...

Re: text or translation
Ah, indeed template:Language adds Category:Works in French instead of Category:French texts. There would seem a certain logic then in reverting to having La gloire in categories Works in French, French translations, and English texts.

Re: text or translation
An interesting case, with logic on both sides. One would think from the documentation that template:Language adds the category French texts, while template:Translations adds Category:English translations, so no one would be shocked at spotting "La gloire…" in English texts if template:Text...

Jose Miguel Galan editions
Many of these very nice editions seem to have broken links: http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Cate ... n_editions

Re: When exactly is a cpdl edition number needed?
I had a look at http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Messe_de_Minuit_pour_No%C3%ABl_(Marc-Antoine_Charpentier)#Music_files today (but carefully avoided comparing the piano reduction to a copyrighted edition). There are some notes that apply to the whole edition rather than individual movements: would ...

Re: When exactly is a cpdl edition number needed?
I guess nombre = number, count or quantity, chiffre = figure (this can mean count as well!) or numeral, numéro = identification number. So one distinguishes between "number of editions" and "edition number". I'm all for consistency too, and agree with your guideline for counting ...

When exactly is a cpdl edition number needed?
I've been looking at the many unindexed Guerrero pieces at Nacho's website, wondering whether to make text pages with external links or submit add work forms, but there's a more basic question on my mind: who uses cpdl numbers, and what for, exactly? This seems to bear on whether a new transposition...

Re: Titles of Early American Compositions
Aha, thanks! Do we need a page Help:Magic words? If DISPLAYTITLE only affects the page itself then one can't spot non-tunenames in Category:Tune names (or tune names in other categories) nor can we disambiguate {{sc|The Call}} (Ralph Vaughan Williams) from The Call (Ralph Vaughan Williams) (currentl...

Re: Titles of Early American Compositions
Chuck, I'm not sure I've understood your last post; my attempt to move Milton (William Billings) to {{DISPLAYTITLE:{{sc|Milton}} (William Billings)}} generates an error message, and I can't find any documentation under Template:DISPLAYPAGE:. The problem of page naming is tangled up with the difficul...

Re: Titles of Early American Compositions
Very neat! But neither option works in page names... Btw, is it very important to eliminate parentheses for non-composer dabs like publication dates &c? I can at least see how "full score" is unnecessary in the following: Messiah: No. 49-50 - Then shall be brought to pass (recit.) &...

Re: Titles of Early American Compositions
The very widespread convention is to put the tune names in small caps: O Son of God, in Galilee (<s>LEWIS-TOWN</s>) (WIlliam Billings) is what's in the several hymnals to hand. If that markup is unfeasible in page titles, I'd still much rather see all-caps for tunes; square brackets strike me as an ...
