Re: Titles of Early American Compositions

Chuck, I'm not sure I've understood your last post; my attempt to move Milton (William Billings) to {{DISPLAYTITLE:{{sc|Milton}} (William Billings)}} generates an error message, and I can't find any documentation under Template:DISPLAYPAGE:. The problem of page naming is tangled up with the difficul...

Re: Titles of Early American Compositions

Very neat! But neither option works in page names... Btw, is it very important to eliminate parentheses for non-composer dabs like publication dates &c? I can at least see how "full score" is unnecessary in the following: Messiah: No. 49-50 - Then shall be brought to pass (recit.) &...

Re: Titles of Early American Compositions

The very widespread convention is to put the tune names in small caps: O Son of God, in Galilee (<s>LEWIS-TOWN</s>) (WIlliam Billings) is what's in the several hymnals to hand. If that markup is unfeasible in page titles, I'd still much rather see all-caps for tunes; square brackets strike me as an ...

Re: Format for Meter of Hymns

It's confusing. Using numbers instead of letters is supposed to be more intuitive for the uninitiated but I can remember to type Category:Hymn meters http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Hymn_meters more easily than remembering the dots and spaces. http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Category:...

Re: Empty link to Buxtehude work

If there are settings that are likely to be of interest to someone looking for a given text I usually add them in black; in this case I red-linked, thinking I might get around to editing the piece.

Re: Duplicate Pages for a Work

The usual procedure is to add the template {{merge}}, or, when the choice of target page seems obvious, {{MergeTo}} and wait a little bit to see if someone pipes up with reservations. The Call is an odd case: both pages were created by the same editor http://www3.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/User:John_He...

Re: Lyricist field for settings of bible texts

Let me answer in the order Carlos posed the questions: In my 3rd post I suggested the output could be Text source without separate templates. I'm quite indifferent to whether "settings" is added or not. 1. Matthew Mark & Luke use identifiably different wording and only one is usually c...

Re: Lyricist field for settings of bible texts

I admit those are interesting questions! There's an outline of psalters at Psalm and sketchier info at http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Bible_versions . Perhaps the template could incorporate version as well: What if the parameters were {{Lyricist|Bible|book|chapter|verse(s, optional hyphens &...

Re: Lyricist field for settings of bible texts

I'm not quite convinced that we need new {{Source}}, {{Bible}} or {{BibSrc}} templates, when " Lyricist: Isaiah 6:3" is easily understood, whether or not one believes that's the author's real name. The ultimate, and an idea long at the back of my mind, would be to break down the chapters a...

Re: Lyricist field for settings of bible texts

Thanks for raising this! A number of pages substitute Text source: for lyricist, but it would be useful to be able to categorize & search. I don't see (version) as a priority myself: what if Lyricist pages were made for the books of the bible and a parameter for chapter:verse added? One could se...

Re: How can I post orchestra part scores with main score?

Well, 16 parts in one file is a bit much too :? Btw, today we posted a couple of editions with score and parts lumped: http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Lauda_Jerusalem_(Johann_Rosenm%C3%BCller) Very heavy on the paper tray if one clicks print before scrolling all the way through! It's also possibl...

Re: Si bona suscepimus - de Rore

I assume it was an understandable confusion of the publication info in the upper left corner with the authorship. I've taken drastic steps :D The misattributed work template doesn't seem quite justified to me; more logically it might go on the redirect page: I wonder what that might screw up! :twist...

Re: Trad_Title_(Traditional) vs. Trad_Title_(Arranger)

I've found text pages like vom Himmel hoch very useful myself, but they will also often include settings of the text that don't use the same tune, and exclude works using the tune for other words. For an illustration of how messy things can get, consider http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Innsbruck,...

Re: How can I post orchestra part scores with main score?

This lumping seems undesirable from my own point of view; often I send players a link and they download their own part to practice from IMSLP. It seems less convenient for them to have to download the whole set and then choose the correct page numbers to print. To answer Mark's question (aside from ...

Re: lyrics hyphenation

I'm a bit late coming on this, but yes, as a rule single syllables must never be hyphenated. I can't help suspecting if there were an example to look at, it might turn out that the question has to do with melismas and how to use a word extension line. I once was handed a score that used hyphens for ...
