Hello,
Out of frustration with my own ability to study my music directly from the
score, I built a website that can play back musicXML files (coria.nl).
My site started as a stand-alone thing, mainly to help myself and my own
choir. Then the choir of my wife also wanted to use it, and so it grew a bit.
The site hosted the pieces that we were studying, as well as the player.
At some moment it became clear that the player could also be used on its
self, or in combination with sources that are hosted elsewhere. This resulted
in 2 Dutch sites using coria as a player for files that are hosted by them
(musicXML and NWC files). They are koorpartij-oefening.nl and
koorpartijen.nl - both sites have a lot of high quality content.
The way coria renders the music is very simple: you will just see the notes of
the part that you want to practice, and hear that part somehow more clearly
than the other parts. Some settings will allow you to modify a few things like
the playback speed etc. It is very much focussed on the task of learning to
sing a piece of SATB choir music, not on rendering this music in a way that
sounds nice.
Coria is a free player. It shows some ads in order to cover the costs of the
server, but I try very hard to do this in an unobtrusive way.
Obviously, CPDL has a massive number of musicXML files. The vast majority of those
can be played very well with coria. Very often it is enough to provide a link
to the musicXML to be able to play it on line.
I would like to investigate if there is a way to make the musicXML files on
CPDL available for practice directly from the CPDL site, similar to what has
been done for koorpartij-oefening.nl aan koorpartijen.nl. Would this be of
interest to you? What would be the best way to approach it?
Kind regards,
Willem de Jong
