Arranger / ArrangementsList

Post by Nikolaus Hold »

In my forum post "Silcher's page" I mentioned that the template {{ArrangementsList}} is not working as I would have expected. I did not get an answer to that. It s probably my own fault for mixing up several topics in my post. So I'll try to explain it again with examples:

1) Vöglein im Tannewald (Traditional)
In this page, Friedrich Silcher is listed as arranger, which automatically leads to the categories Friedrich Silcher compositions and Friedrich Silcher arrangements.
On Silcher's page, Vöglein im Tannewald (Traditional) is therefore listed under secular works, but not under Arrangements by Friedrich Silcher, as I would have expected.

2) For Muss i denn (Traditional) the same applies.

3) Bitte an den Mond (Anonymous)
In this page Friedrich Silcher is listed
> as composer,
> only mentioned under Edition notes as arranger (without template),
> but additionally (probably manually?) listed as category Friedrich Silcher arrangements. Nevertheless, it is only under secular works too, not under Arrangements by Friedrich Silcher.

4) A different behavior can be observed on Johann Michael Haydn's page. On the page Tauet, Himmel, den Gerechten (Norbert Hauner) he is listed as arranger for the Salzburger Kirchengesangsbuch. Consequently, Johann Michael Haydn compositions and Johann Michael Haydn arrangements are generated as categories. (The former can only cause astonishment.) But the latter is red, i.e. obviously not created (although it is correctly displayed at preview, but cannot be saved). Consequently, on the page Johann Michael Haydn there is no heading Arrangements by Johann Michael Haydn.
Under List of choral works, however, Tauet, Himmel is displayed.

5) Abendlied (Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck)
This song is shown on Ludwig Erk s page only under Arrangements by Ludwig Erk, just as I think it should be. This is apparently due to the fact that the originally existing {{Arranger|Ludwig Erk}} on the work-page was first replaced by {{cat|Ludwig Erk arrangements|Ludwig Erk}} in Edition notes and then by {{Edc|arr|Ludwig Erk}}. (I knew nothing about it at the time.)

My question: Is it better to stop using the {{Arranger}} template and use {{Edc|arr|...}} instead, even though it is labeled as for experimental use ?
