proper place for arrangement of traditional piece using a less known alternate title?

Post by pateceramics »

Hi folks!

I just finished an arrangement of Down in the Valley to Pray. It is an older variation of the spiritual most people know as Down in the River to Pray. Both the tune and lyrics are slightly different, but only slightly. I arranged the oldest known published version of the melody, printed 2 years after the end of the Civil War. All the current versions I have seen of this piece use the modern 'O Brother Where Art Thou' lyrics, title, and melody. My aim in making the arrangement was to raise awareness of the older version for people interested in traditional music. We have a cpdl page devoted to this tune under the more modern title, (Down in the River to Pray). Is it appropriate to add my arrangement to that page? Or is there a better solution to link these tune variants so people can find this option when searching? I'll let the editors decide what makes the most sense. Kind regards, -Maggie Furtak
