It happened yesterday evening, around 22 GMT (I was online at that very time). I don't know the reasons. However, please note that the "emergency site" made when the major crash occurred (http://www.choralwiki.org/) is currently available.

I changed the title of this thread and marked it as an announcement, so that it appears at the top of this forum.

I've no idea what sort of thing has caused the current unavailability of CPDL, but I hope it was not another crash, since many volunteers have been working steadily at restoring various features, scores, and other aspects of CPDL since its major crash in June.

At times like this, we seem to be impeded not only in knowledge about what has caused these failures but also in there not being a group of administrators (other than just the owner Raf Ornes himself) empowered to take corrective action when such failures occur, to inform CPDL users here at the forum about the nature and anticipated downtime of such failures, and to ensure that backups of CPDL are made at regular, frequent intervals.

In the mean time, let us hope this failure isn't like the last crash!!

CPDL is up again. I've just re-activated the automatic monitoring service provided by http://www.siteuptime.com. Admins who asked to receive the alerts should have received a "www.cpdl.org is up" notification, as well as a test alert.

Availability statistics are provided at:

http://www.siteuptime.com/statistics.ph ... erId=66948.

I have no idea.

I totally agree with Chuck. I'm definitely more talented for information technology rather than for music, so I'm available to contribute with my time (and some money, if necessary) to improve information security at CPDL.

CPDL Down again - Dec 7th - 3AM - PST

Post by johnhenryfowler »

I changed the title of this thread to reflect the current outage...

Max notes: Apparently the CPDL website is down at this very time. The automatic monitoring system detected a start of the outage at 08:10 GMT. I hope it will be soon available again. ( That's 3 AM on Dec 7th - Pacific Standard Time )

Hi John,

Even though it is not very important, I believe that the correct time of the outage is around midnight PST. This is the message I received from the automatic monitoring service:
Dear Massimo Capozza,

This is an automated message from SiteUptime.

Alert Type: Site Not Available
Result: Failed
Time: December 8, 2007 00:10:04 PST
HostName/URL: www.cpdl.org
Monitor Name: CPDL
Service: http
However, I note that the CPDL logo that is present on the top-left corner of this page is visible, and it is located on the CPDL server, so I suppose it's a partal outage.

Should anybody be willing to receive the CPDL outage notifications from SiteUpTime, please just let me know: I can automatically re-dispatch them to anybody.

Regards.

Good news:
This is an automated message from SiteUptime.

The system confirmed 39 failed checks at 30 minute intervals starting at December 8, 2007 00:11:55 PST

Alert Type: Site is Available
Result: Ok
Time: December 8, 2007 19:41:09 PST
HostName/URL: www.cpdl.org
Monitor Name: CPDL
Service: http
The CPDL website has become available again after almost 20 hours of downtime. I don't know the reasons of this outage. Anyway, thanks to Raf and to anybody who worked to restore the service.

Isn't there a mirror in place now? I imagine that is saving a lot of energy and concern! Anyway it is good to see the service fully back up.

CPDL down again on March 25, 2008

Post by choralia »

Apparently, there is another significant outage of the CPDL website. However, the "emergency website" at http://www.choralwiki.org/ seems available at the moment.
