Uploading a Score

I believe I am relatively intelligent, I held down a career and advanced to the top, I read write and speak six languages; I can even count to ten, and backwards too! What I cannot do is upload a score to CPDL. So help me, I find the process and the instructions impenetrable! I tried to follow the instructions, but at times they seemed to refer to nothing I could see on the page. Other times I had to refer back to a previous page that meant losing all the work I had already done. I am truly amazed that some people actually do manage to upload stuff. But I am coming round to the idea that these must by now have been driven totally mad in trying to deal with the site and its complications.

Oh, I seemed to get a score uploaded, and then I think I got a composer's page up - well, part of it. After that, though, it was a dead loss. The idea of having to copy a page to my cache so that I could recall it and insert information on the saved item seems weird. Why not just fill in the original like a form? What's with the mumbo jumbo of saving it? From there on things went rapidly downhill.

The Help pages? Like all computer help, they tell you everything you do not need or wish to know... or so it seems. Mind you, at this stages my attitude was somewhat jaundiced.

I'd like to share what I have created - really. That would be a joy. But I am not prepared to do so unless CPDL can come up with something saner than the system which is in place. I have given two hours to this process, and frankly that's enough. :?

But perhaps I am the only computer idiot around...

David

Hi David

I'm sorry that you've had such problems trying to add your works to CPDL. So far, you have created a composer page for yourself and uploaded a Sibelius file. You can see all your contributions here.

Most people are successful when they carefully follow the score submission guide but if you still have problems after that, please post a specific query here or email addscore AT cpdl.org with your files and the information required in the form such as title, voicing, genre, etc. (replace "AT" in the email address with the @ symbol). I'll be happy to post your score for you if you email it to that address.

Robert

Thanks Bobnotts.

Your kind offer is much appreciated. I'll get around to sending material to you in the afternoon. I am about to dash to the airport now to send some people back to a chillier climate (Ireland). Ignore the smugness, please. 8)

Sorry for the outburst, but I had reached a point of frustration that was blowing gaskets within a kilometer's radius.

Regards,

David

What's New?

Hi Bobnotts,

So what is new?

The resident Demons in the main CDPL site now won't allow me to log in. I tried a new password, intending to reset to my usual one once I was in, but the new one didn't take - even though I copied and pasted. Then I tried the old one again, but no joy. That was this morning - and I was eventually told I had made too many attempts with the password and that I should wait. It is now 6 pm and the same message appears.

Is there some way you could clear this block, please?

BTW, the old password works a treat here on the bulletin board.

Thanks

David.

Well I'm afraid I can't help with your log in problems but I've asked a couple of other admins who are more technically minded to look into it. I hope they can help you.

Hello Bobnotts,

Thanks for any assistance you can summon up for me and sorry to be a nuisance. It's not Fri 13th by any chance?

Anyway, It's almost midnight here. I'll give it one more go and see what happens.

Your help much appreciated!

David.

Tried to log in. This is what I get:

Login errorYou have made too many recent attempts on this account's password. Please wait before trying again.

Thing is, It's getting on for six hours since I last tried. Hardly recent in computer terms. Most sites, in my experience, seem to relax the block-out after 15 mins or half an hour.

Anyway, it's time to get some sleep.

Night!

Hi David, have you tried to ask for your password to be sent you via email? Just click on the link below and then click on the button "email new password". With it you're supposed to be able to login to CPDL and then change the password again to one of your choice.

Let's hope it works correctly for you!

HI Carlos. Thanks for your advice. I did, in fact try this, but to no avail. It seemed not to take. And there could have been no error as I copied and pasted... :(

Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained. So I'll give it another try and let you know the outcome.

Regards,

David.

Hello again Carlos,

Further to my earler mailing this morning, I got another password, and this worked to the extent of getting me into Wiki. However, when I try to get into CPDL, I still get the same old message that I have tried too many times using the password etc... (see my posting of last night). This happens with the new password and also with my old one. How long do I have to wait until the servers recover their sanity - or I lose mine? :)

Seriously, if you can help, I would be grateful. Look forward t hearing from you.

Regards,

David.

Hello Bobnotts and Carlos,

There comes a time to cut the Gordian Knot, so I have set up another account under the username of Antony, which is the ID under which I am now writing to you.

I have some questions however, Bobnotts:

- I assume that the piece I uploaded will have to be done again????

- And what is the position with regard to the actual part song that was uploaded also?

- Will the 'Xotan' account lapse automatically, or can it be suppressed?

Thanks for your help and patience with this tangled problem.

David.

Usually the accounts last "forever" unless we take some action. In this case, I've just merged the 'Xotan' account to your new one and deleted 'Xotan' (so, in theory, you'd even be able to recreate it). All your contributions made with the old account were also transferred to the new account, so please don't upload anything again.

Regards,
Carlos

Hello Carlos,

I was hoping that it would be possible for you to merge the two IDs/accounts. That saves a lot of work.

Once again, regrets for the hassle, and many thanks to Bob and you for being so patient, and for your help!

David
