Chuck Giffen suggested I post a topic here so here goes.

How do you avoid music plagiarism in composing a new piece?

I've found these sites helpful for checking melodies/tunes:

http://www.musipedia.org/
http://www.themefinder.org/
http://bestclassicaltunes.com/DictionaryPiano.aspx
http://www.multimedialibrary.com/barlow/
http://www.folktunefinder.com/

Does anyone know of other sites or have other ideas for avoiding music plagiarism?

Best regards, Susan

I know about two tools that allow the identification of pieces where a certain sequence of notes is present:

- the Search by Melody tool at IMSLP;

- the Kooplet search engine by the Myriad Software team.
