Confirmation email problem, & greetings

Post by MandyShaw »

Hi, and apologies for the long silence from this direction - I have moved house and area, and then unexpectedly left my job and set up a new business, in the last 9 months. However I've now got a bit of spare time again.

I'd like to do some editing, but am coming up against a lack of email confirmation. I logged on successfully and changed my email address (the old one, relating to my old job, is no longer available to me), and requested a confirmation email a couple of times (this morning and just now), but nothing has come through. Other email is being delivered successfully and there's nothing in my Junk folder. Would it be possible for someone to have a look at this?

Old email address = mandy.shaw@uk.logicalis.com
New email address = mandy.shaw@iperimeter.co.uk

Many thanks
Mandy

P.S. I successfully received and actioned the activation email for the forum when I changed my email address here - it's just the main site that's the problem.

Hi Mandy,

I checked your email address as stored in the wiki database, and it's consistent with your current address. The database also reports that a confirmation email was sent to you, and the time to confirm your email address will expire on April 25. If you didn't receive the confirmation email, just try to go through the email confirmation process again.

Thanks Max - I've just hit the button again - nothing as yet, but I will check again in half an hour & post the results here.

The expiry date for confirmation is now April 26, so this seems consistent with a new email having been sent to you.

But Max, nothing has arrived - I have tried 3 times now in the last day and a bit. Meanwhile I am receiving all expected emails from the forum in a timely manner ...
Should I simply re-register on CPDL, and assume that my account has got upset somehow because I didn't use it for so long? Don't particularly want to do this, but it obviously wouldn't stop me editing what I need to.

No, I got it: it was in the spam folder. Mandy, could you please try to create a new accont, using the same email address, and see whether you can obtain the confirmation email in that case?

Hi Max, apologies for the delay.

I tried twice to register again with the same email address, as mandyshaw and as Mandy_Shaw, and neither of them has produced a confirmation email.

I then tried to register as Shaw_Mandy using my hotmail email account shaw_mandy@hotmail.com, and the confirmation email arrived right away.

Bit of a mystery, especially given that the forum can deliver to mandy.shaw@iperimeter.co.uk without trouble. But anyway I can now get my editing sorted out. Many thanks for your help. I will post here again if any of the delayed emails turns up.

All the best

The wiki and the forums are hosted on different servers. For disaster recovery reasons, the server hosting the wiki also hosts a back-up forums website, while the server hosting the forums also hosts the back-up wiki webiste. The two servers are operated by different hosting providers located in different states of the U.S. . So, it seems that there is something wrong between the main wiki server and your iperimeter.co.uk email accounts. If so, everything should work if you use your hotmail account in lieu of iperimeter.co.uk. Wonder why, but the cause is probably outside the perimeter that is under our control at CPDL.

BTW, welcome back after a rather long time! :D We look forward to receiving your contributions and support.

Thanks - I had gathered that there'd been a big change, both technically and administratively - it's all looking fabulous.

Hi - follow-up to the above ... I never did get any emails to mandy.shaw@iperimeter.co.uk from CPDL (from the forum, no problem, though).

I reported this, & a similar problem with emails from a couple of other websites, to my ISP. They asked me to find out whether there are any bounce messages. Is it at all possible that one of the admins might be able to look for any of these? These would include an error message to show why the emails are not getting through.

Thanks v much

P.S. I requested a CPDL confirmation email to mandy.shaw@iperimeter.co.uk about 15 minutes ago, so this should show the problem.

I've just sent to you an email from our admin email account. My private email address was in copy, and I've received it. Did you receive it? The server is the same used by ChoralWiki, but ChoralWiki has an independent SMTP engine to send messages.
