rodeby.noteperfect.net/ moving to cantatedomino.org

Post by vaarky »

I recall that there were some links pointing to rodeby.noteperfect.net but their corresponding scores could not be found. That site now says they are transitioning scores to http://www.cantatedomino.org/cd/index.shtml?Start.txt. Is there a way to find a list of scores that reference rodeby.noteperfect.net to see which ones have an equivalent at the new location and check if those scores are up? Via Google, I found that user Rod_Mather has the site listed in his user page on CPDL, so I will update the CPDL scores I can find out through there. Any ideas about how to check if there are others?

The MediaWiki applicaton software includes a specific table in the MySQL database where all the external links are listed. In such a table the links are stored as "blobs" (i.e., as binary objects - I know it's quite an odd term in English), but the table can be exported to a readable format such as CSV, so all the links having certain characteristics can be then identified through a text search.

So, if you agree, I can export the external links table as CSV today, and send it to you via e-mail.

If it's under a meg, please do send. Otherwise, I can supply a separate e-mail address to use for large files.
Thanks.

The editor I found has 34 scores linked to his page. At what point numerically should we generally establish a variable like we did for the Victoria pages?

In principle, any number more than a few would qualify for the purpose of handling links to externally hosted scores via the Template:Website (as has been done with Victoria and Adrian Cuello already). The mitigating factor is whether the scores are already in place (where considerable work must be done to add the site to the Template:Website parameters and convert all the links already in place) or scores are still being added (where less work is required to convert the presumably fewer existing links).

In the case where a website change actually happens, it is just as easy to use the Template:Website method as it is to hard-code the new links, save for the one extra step of definining the new website parameter in the template (which takes all of one minute) ... and we are protected against the possibility of yet another change in the website hosting the scores. Finally, the template method generally results in shorter code on each page which can be a big savings (as it is with the Victoria site).

34 scores seems to be more than enough for the template method to be used.

I agree that template:website should be used in this instance and for any case where there are over 20 external links.
