When does the "New" logo disappear?

Hello,

does anyone now what the exact function of the "New" icon is?
The "Add scores" form automatically attaches the template {{NewWork|YYYY-MM-DD}}. It seems to me that this icon remains attached to a score for a long time (forever?).

Is the editor of a site responsible for removing this logo manually from each of his sites, or is there some automatism that removes the logo after a fixed period (e.g. four months)?

Hi Chris,

For a long time, the "new" logo was entered and removed manually. Since the upgrade, we have automated the process: the {{NewWork|yyyy-mm-dd}} displays the "new" logo for exactly twelve months at present. (Edit: this time has now been changed to 3 months.) The twelve months time was chosen rather arbitrarily, but actually any other length of time could be used. Perhaps users would like to register their opinions on the matter.

3 months seems like a reasonable period. The current 12 months is probably too long IMO.

I've just changed things so that the "new" icon only appears for 3 months, in accordance with the previous two suggestions - although I wonder if perhaps this might be increased to, say 6 months.

FWIW, I don't feel strongly about 6 months vs. 3 months.
